About the Adirondack rail trail

The 34-mile multipurpose trail that starts at Lake Placid and ends at Tupper Lake will serve users of all ages and abilities year-round. It will enable residents and visitors to enjoy healthy exercise, commune with nature, and soak up Adirondack history. Use this website to plan your trip.

The Adirondack Rail Trail is owned by the People of the State of NY and managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). The Adirondack Rail Trail Association (ARTA) partners with NYS DEC under a Volunteer Stewardship Agreement (VSA) that addresses trail maintenance and amenities.

The Adirondack Rail Trail is a journey like no other in the Adirondack Park. It TRAVERSES THROUGH VIBRANT SECTIONS OF LAKE PLACID, RAY BROOK, SARANAC LAKE, LAKE COLBY, LAKE CLEAR, AND TUPPER LAKE.
